Design Inspiration For Small Apartments (Less Than 600 square feet)

Our first small apartment design is a London pad, measuring 521 square feet, or 48 square meters. Two large windows help out here by filling the compact space with natural light, but the décor scheme helps things along with an airy, bright palette.

Scattered dark accents are present to give the overall look some weight, and prevent the result from appearing bland.

Two different colored sofas add interest and make the space seem larger than is actual.

A low level coffee table gives the homeowner a place to rest a selection of books and decorative items without the space looking overcrowded.

The dining table has been pushed up flush against the back of the sofa to save space whilst still allowing for a more formal eating arrangement that does avoids perching on the sofa with dinners on laps.

The white kitchen fade away into the pale wall, but the backsplash has been picked out in a rich dark wood tone.

Lighting is kept small and simple.

The bedroom takes on an industrial feel with free hanging bulbs on reams of cable. The walls are kept free from clutter.

Our second compact apartment, based in Sweden, measures 377 square feet, or 35 square meters. This small home interior takes a different route entirely, incorporating a whole host of eclectic items to form a welcoming homey atmosphere.

Contemporary and traditional work together to create interest in this scheme, to keep the eye moving around the close quarters. A central circular coffee table helps the free-flow of the layout, keeping the energy of the space moving without halting at right angles.

A shoe collection becomes a visual attraction on this open display shelving unit.

A mezzanine level moves the sleep space up into the rafters to increase the living space down below.

The eclectic kitchen is a stunning little gem that leads out onto a romantic balcony.

Beautiful Balinese Style House In Hawaii

Located on the big island, this Hawaiian home has been decorated in a modern, sumptuous Balinese style that was inspired by temples and traditional palaces. Created by Olson Kundig Architects, this striking build is fully submerged the Indonesian theme, including décor, furnishings and artefacts.

Raised up on a picturesque promontory of volcanic rock, the exterior of this tropical home is a strong contemporary vision, with broad overhangs to shade the interior quarters from the blazing Hawaiian sunshine. An infinity pool stretches out alongside a selection of mature palm trees, surrounded by a stone sun deck.

Large retractable glass doors disappear to allow the modern home to open up to the private infinity pool, beautifully lush landscaped gardens, and sparkling ocean view to the horizon. The slide-away walls also facilitate natural gentle cooling of the home, utilizing the refreshing sea breeze.

An open plan layout allows the internal areas of the home to bask in the views through the houses vast windows.

A predominantly plain and neutral color palette is warmed by scattered bolts of terracotta and yellow ochre, within wall paintings and stand-alone decorative items. The serene décor creates the perfect backdrop against which to display the homeowners belongings, as each nook and cranny seems to be populated with attractive collections of soulful sculptures and intricate ornaments.

Swathes of warming wood tone covers walls and ceilings, furniture finds and bespoke shelving.

Black screen doors allow pretty glimmers of emerald green garden to show through.

The home entryway holds the majesty of an art gallery, or perhaps the hush an ancient temple.

As the modern structure is seated on a solid lava base, a symbolic river of cooled hardened lava can be found meandering through the landscaped plot, connecting the home in line from the mountains to the Pacific ocean.
