Lakeside Summer Home

This lakeshore summer home is the cumulative dream of a family who had spent numerous vacations on Lake Okanagan, and who longed to have a hideaway that was as welcoming as their favorite location, and that would continue to welcome the growing family for generations to come. The family began making sketches of their imagined dream dwelling, and Robert Bailey Interiors came on board to make their daydreams a reality.

Enlisting the help of an architectural designer to apply their vision, the interiors company worked to create a home that was not only attractive but practical for the family. By omitting anything that requires a great deal of maintenance or that is overly precious, the very active family are free to spend their days hauling equipment in and out of the house for cycling, kayaking, swimming, and running with sand covered feet!

An open plan design was thought to be the best solution to embrace the influx of extended family and close friends who come to stay at the Okanagan. The sleeping spaces were kept flexible for the changing number of inhabitants, and the living spaces were made to double as entertaining areas, with zoning flowing freely for unobstructed mingling and shared activities.

The ceiling finishes echo the seamless flooring in French oak planking, which also brings a taste of the outdoors inside. The pre-distressed material is also a durable surface, and provides the most dominant feature throughout the home. To soften the floors and bring a little extra comfort and warmth underfoot, deep taupe rugs have been added, which also help define areas.

Fully retractable bi-fold doors allow the vacation celebrations to breeze in and out.

Lawn furniture

The furniture was selected for its laid-back look, and chosen to appear as though the collection of comfortable pieces had became part of the family home over a number of years, rather than all landing at once.
