Minimalist Interior With Focus On Family & Functionailty

Three apartments were merged together to realise the River Stone project, a spacious 300 square metre home for a young family. Designed by the talent at ZOOI, this is an interior of airy minimalism and a quest of perfectionism. The apartment has been zoned to facilitate practical family life, with a decor palette that is neither overly feminine nor masculine, but rather settles softly in a stylishly neutral place right in the middle. That is, except for the child’s bedroom, which is a little girl’s dream world come true. Come along with us on an inspirational tour of this bright and relaxing modern family home…

The main living room is a large open plan space that encompasses an impressive lounge area, a sociable kitchen diner and a formal dining room. The colour palette runs harmoniously from zone to zone; shades of beige, taupe, grey and natural woodtone provide an earthy scheme that continues on into the master and guest bedrooms.

A unique coffee table from Gallotti & Radice forms the centre of the lounge. A grey area rug makes an island around which to float a sprawling sectional sofa design by Lema. Varying shades of beige upholstery and scatter cushions visually break up the lengthy sofa arrangement.

Floor length beige curtains soften the all-white walls at the edges.

Technical track lights from the XAL factory illuminate the length of the space. A modern floor lamp extends as task lighting over one end of the sofa, where an additional sectional seat looks outward to a window. The ‘light stalk’ and chair combo forms a reading nook.

The dining room is situated behind the living room sofa, whilst a sweeping one-wall kitchen with island is set off to one side. The lack of dividing walls allow family members to interact even whilst partaking in different activities.

Despite its foundations in the minimalist aesthetic, this apartment reads comfortably as a family home. Plenty of room to spread out over the sofa means a multitude of pastimes can take place all in one sitting. Magazines, keyboards., game controllers or laptops strewn around simply lay evidence to the hubbub of family life.

Soft gold home accent pieces are threaded through the interior.

A gold decorative vase and tidy tray adorn the living room coffee table.

SIx light dining room chairs are seated at a black dining table by Muuto.

A black modern chandelier by New York Roll & Hill decorates the space above the black table.

The work surfaces in the neighbouring kitchen diner are also black, which is matched by Lapalma kitchen bar stools and a central section of cabinetry in the one-wall kitchen.

The long kitchen island stands as a runway to an impressive cityscape view.

Three unique kitchen pendant lights run the length of the breakfast bar.

Large cabinet doors conceal various storage systems, appliances and kitchen accessories.

Wine glasses are displayed in a backlit unit.

Shallow units provide storage opportunities around the headboard in the first bedroom. A Grasshopper floor lamp partners one side of the bed, whilst a small side table accompanies the other.

Built-in closets go almost unnoticed around the bedroom door.

A table lamp version of the Grasshopper floor light is placed at the end of a long dresser. Deep yellow accents weave a new thread into the home’s colour story.

The master bathroom is separated from the master bed by a wall of transparent glass.

White marble tiles and indoor plants decorate the bathroom. The chair is by Walter Knoll; the towel and bathroom set are Agape.

The master bedroom storage furniture is fronted with smoked glass to maintain a sense of openness and space. The bedroom pendant light and wall light are solar disks by Marset.

A small side table sits in the walkway to the ensuite bathroom.

A matching black tray table equips the opposite side of the bed.

Closets line the walkway to another of the home’s three bathrooms.

A black rainfall shower head awaits over a large shower enclosure.

Metal shelving gives an industrial bathroom flavour.

Bedroom number three is the nanny’s room. This is a compact but functional space that offers a neat work area in front of a large window.

Smooth slab fronted wardrobes line one entire wall.

Floor reading lamps provide a nice alternative to wall scones, and they can be easily repurposed in other areas too.

A 4 poster bed in the shape of a house makes a grand statement in the child’s room. Light pink and beige decorates the walls and soft furnishings; a pastel themed kids’ room is calming and promotes restful sleep.

A comfy kid’s chair sits against one of numerous house shaped panels along the tv wall.

Owl decor, which is a sconce by Karman, lights up another house panel on the opposite wall.

Behind the head of the bed, a dedicated kid’s study is kitted out with a white and wood desk and a copper desk lamp, all nestled under a pitched roof. This zoning keeps the child’s studies separate from the rest and recreation area. The dreamy cloud shaped ceiling light is by Nemo; a transparent bubble chair allows the child to take a study break and swing beneath the ‘sky’.

The kid’s bathroom wall decor follows on with the house shaped theme.

Green-grey flush-fit doors provide colour to the largely neutral scheme.

Passage between dressing rooms is lit with the technical light XAL from Austria.

Leading designers Maxim Doschinsky and Pavel Voitov ensured functionality was at the forefront in this home, and utilised connecting spaces for the installation of storage systems.
